Our Carbon-Free and Healthy Schools Campaign
The crises of climate change, widening inequality, and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic overlap in Maine’s public school system, where aging HVAC systems and energy-inefficient infrastructure impact student and staff health and wellbeing, strain municipal budgets, impact unions at the bargaining table and contribute significantly to the state’s overall carbon emissions.
Our Carbon-Free and Healthy Schools will confront these challenges head-on by urging our state and federal leaders to make critical climate upgrades to public school buildings: retrofitting school facilities, electrifying school buses, and installing solar on buildings. Together, we can create safe and healthy schools, slash energy costs, support high-quality union jobs, and contribute to a renewable energy economy in Maine.
